Adaptation of ancient jewelry became very popular in Europe during the mid 19th century. The Castellani workshop in Naples, Italy, where Henry Walters visited in 1909, was famous for this style of jewelry. This necklace was inspired by a necklace in the Walters collection, which came from that very same Castellani workshop . It features a pendant set with genuine lapis lazuli* cabochons in 22k gold-plated pewter measuring 1 x ½ inches on a gold-plated 18 inch chain with a sturdy lobster-claw clasp.
