Show some love! The heart symbol today is widely recognized as the symbol for love. It is believed that the origins of the heart shape came from the ancient people of Cyrene, inspired by the silphium plant’s leaves and seeds with resemble heart shapes. The hearts in the Bactrian Gold collection, from the 2nd and 3rd Century BC and unearthed at Tillya Tepe or “Golden Hill”, in Northern Afghanistan, are thought to reflect the diverse cultures and art that began to fuse with silk trade.

Inspired by the collection in National Museum of Afghanistan and National Geographic Society, these earrings feature a Lapis Lazuli bead with a gold-finished pewter bead in the shape of a heart. Earrings hang approximately 1 inch in length and 0.5 inch wide.
