Lapis Lazuli, the “sapphire” of the ancients, was favored for its deep blue color, often flecked with “gold” (iron pyrite). The Egyptians regarded lapis lazuli as a sacred stone of celestial origin and a symbol for truth. Regalia made of gold and lapis lazuli was believed to place the wearer under the protection of the sun and heaven. A bestseller in our Museum Store, these earrings feature genuine lapis lazuli tubes, freshwater pearls, gold-plated pewter beads and lever-back hooks that hang approximately 1 ½” long.
